Welcome to Naked News everyone, I’m WSJ. Kat Curtis is starting us off today with what’s Trending Now, online. What’s going on Kat?
Whitney, I’m sure you and everyone else remembers the Ice Bucket challenge right? It helped raise millions for ALS research.
Of course – and Kudos to Isabella because HER ice bucket challenge video went VIRAL!
It was definitely sexy! Well, a NEW campaign is underway, and it hopes to be equally successful! Here’s what’s going on. Hashtag-BreakingBatten is one of the hottest new trends on Twitter, and for good reason! It’s aimed at drawing attention to Batten disease, a rare degenerative brain disorder. The campaign was started last month by a group of online celebrities including Bart Baker and Nash Grier. The idea’s simple: break something and then nominate someone else to do the same! The trend has since drawn support from some true A-listers! The Rock, Mark Wahlberg, and even Bryan Cranston have gotten in on the act! No Bryan hasn’t aged horribly. That was taken on the set of HBO’s new biopic he’s starring in about Lyndon Johnson. The campaign has already raised 2 million of its 10 million dollar goal.
Also Trending Now, the cover of the FINAL edition of the saucy Australian men’s mag, Zoo Weekly! As you can see, Zoo went down with one final message to its many, many critics. Zoo was accused of publishing tasteless articles that objectified women and promoted rape culture. Its infamous search for "Australia’s Hottest Asylum Seeker" in 2012 drew particular criticism. A campaign to see the mag shut down garnered nearly 40-thousand signatures this summer. Based on the response from the Twitterverse, it won’t be dearly missed!
We’re hot for the "Teacher Goddess"! 23-year old Xu Dongxiang has become an online sensation thanks to these smokin’ hot workout photos! Xu’s a teacher in China’s northeastern Liaoning Province, and based on these pics we’re betting her students are having a hard time concentrating! The snaps were posted on China’s popular Sina Weibo social media site, but have since become a global phenomenon!
Disgraced UConn student and reigning Boob of the Week Luke Gatti says he’s sorry! The 19-year old made a total ass of himself when he went on a drunken tirade in the school cafeteria, demanding his bacon jalapeno mac and cheese. The cringeworthy video went viral, and now Luke’s trying to make things right by apologizing. We were all wondering the exact same thing, Luke. The school is still deliberating on whether or not he’ll be expelled, but this apology could go a long way towards keeping him enrolled.
And as I’m sure you’ve heard, Kanye West plans on running for the White House in 2020. Well at a DNC fundraiser this weekend in San Francisco, President Barack Obama joked that Kanye was also eyeing the currently vacant Speaker of the House gig. With that in mind, the POTUS gave Kanye three rules for his future political ambitions, and they’ve naturally gone viral! Seriously though, I’d love to see Kanye as the House Speaker – just imagine all the mic drops! I’m Katherine Curtis and that’s what’s Trending Now!
I’m Lydia. In the news today, New York’s attorney general is investigating Turing Pharmaceuticals, the company that raised the price of a popular cancer and AIDS drug a few weeks ago by 5 thousand percent. The drug maker bought Daraprim in August and immediately increased the price of one pill from $13.50 to $750 dollars. The attorney general is investigating for possible antitrust violations, claiming that Turing MAY be restricting distribution of the drug to stop other companies from making cheaper generic versions.
Apple could be on the hook for 862 MILLION dollars in damages. A jury has found that the tech giant used technology owned by the University of Wisconsin-Madison in iPhones and iPads. The patent for improving chip efficiency was recently upheld by the US Patent and Trademark Office despite a challenge by Apple. The University has since filed a SECOND lawsuit relating to chips used in the just released iPhone 6s, 6s Plus and the iPad Pro.
And the US Army is about to test an amazing new weapon. It’s basically a SMART rifle, but it’s official name right now is the XM-25 Counter Defilade Engagement System. It has the ability to strike the enemy, even if they’re shielded behind cover. It uses software to determine the distance of the target and then shoots a grenade type bullet that explode OVER or beside the target. The rifle has a range of 23 hundred feet, Whitney – far more than most conventional rifles.
That would certainly give soldiers in the field a real advantage! Thanks very much, Lydia. We’ll see Lydia again a little later in the program. Next up, one of MY favorite topics, SPORTS! Natasha Olenski has the latest, including the ultimate ranking of professional franchises.
That’s right Whitney! ESPN has released its rankings of all 122 North American professional sports franchises. And for two teams, it’s the same old story. Once again, the NBA’s San Antonio Spurs are ranked number one. And once again, the NHL’s Toronto Maple Leafs are ranked dead last! ESPN used categories such as affordability, fan relations, ownership, coaching, and stadium experience to create the Ultimate Standings. With a sky-high average ticket price of 139 dollars and an abysmal on-ice product, Toronto’s more than earned its reputation as the worst sports franchise. In fact, the Maple Leafs have won the dubious distinction in three out of the last four years!
Former NBA all-star Lamar Odom was found unconscious in a Nevada brothel and rushed to hospital on Tuesday. The ex-husband of Khloe Kardashian checked into the Love Ranch on Saturday and was reportedly parting with the ladies for a few days. The brothel’s owner says Odom had been taking large amounts of herbal Viagra. No illegal drugs were found in the 35-year old’s room. Emergency workers wanted to airlift Odom to the Las Vegas hospital, but he was too tall to fit in the helicopter! Instead he was treated at a nearby facility before being transported back to Sin City.
It was the slide heard ’round the world, but Major League Baseball won’t be holding a formal hearing on it until Monday! LA Dodgers infielder Chase Utley was slapped with a 2-game suspension for his vicious slide into second base in Game 2. Utley broke the leg of Mets shortstop Ruben Tejada. But rather than sit out, Utley’s appealing the suspension. And Mets fans won’t like this: since the league won’t review his case until next week, he’ll be eligible to play in the rest of the series against New York!
Bad news for Lionel Messi! A Spanish judge has ruled that the soccer superstar WILL stand trial on three counts of tax fraud! Messi and his father are being accused of hiding 4.6 million dollars from Spanish tax collectors. The 28-year old’s legal team has argued the tax scheme was all the work of Messi’s father, and that the global sports icon had nothing to do with it. Evidently the judge disagrees. If found guilty, both men could be sentenced to nearly two years behind bars.
And we’ll finish up with a new couple alert in the sports world! UFC heavyweight Travis Browne has let it slip that he’s dating Ronda Rousey! Browne told an interviewer that Ronda’s his woman and he’s her man. Aw, don’t you love it when UFC fighters talk about their feelings? Browne says he got to know Ronda through the gym, and says she’s one of the hardest-working athletes he’s ever seen. Talk about a power couple!
Now let’s check out some of this weeks MUST SEE moments from the world of Sports.
As the saying goes you’ve got to be lucky to be good, and good to be lucky. What a catch! I’m Natasha Olenski and THAT’S my Naked Sports report!
I’m Carli Bei. In travel news, a recent survey came out listing people’s biggest pet peeves when it comes to tourists. And surprise surprise, it all starts with the selfie stick! Sure we all want that perfect holiday snap, but using it in busy public spaces riled up 28-percent of those polled. And if you’re going to share your holiday pics on social media, be sure to label them with the RIGHT hashtags. People calling Tower Bridge "London Bridge" on Instagram has been singled out as one of the most common mistakes tourists make. Last but not least if you’re in a foreign country, try to follow the rules! Tourists breaking the law at famous landmarks are sure to annoy locals, especially if you’re trying to get a naked selfie!
Speaking of breaking the rules, if you’re visiting China’s Huaqing Hot Springs in Shaanxi province, officials have a simple request for you: stop fondling the naked statue! The statue honors an ancient Chinese beauty who was known to bathe in the hot springs. But tourists are corrupting her dignity! Photos are popping up all over social media of people copping a feel! A sign has been posted by the statue asking people to quote "take photos in a civilized manner".
If money’s no object and you’re in the Big Apple, you should book a room at the Plaza Hotel! It’s been named the number one luxury hotel in the world according to a new survey of multi-millionaires. With views of Central Park, exquisite decor, and round-the-clock butler service, it’s no wonder the Plaza’s number one! The data comes courstesy of New World Wealth. If you’re feeling lucky, try the Bellagio! The Las Vegas hotel and casino was ranked number two on the planet, while London’s Mandarin Oriental rounded out the top three.
Here’s a getaway that promises to attract a different sort of crowd. A Native American tribe in South Dakota is planning to open America’s very first marijuana resort! The Santee Sioux tribe has been given permission to grow and sell their own weed. They’re billing the new resort as an adult playground, where guests can enjoy games, slot machines, live music, and hang out in a smoking lounge or at the bar. Tribe leaders think the place can make up to 2 million dollars a month. We’ll find out when it opens on New Year’s Eve.
And tighter airport security in New York means travelers will soon have to pack something extra: their passports! Starting next year, New Yorkers won’t be able to fly with their drivers licenses as ID. Instead they’ll need their passports or an Enhanced Driver’s License, which costs about 30 dollars more than the regular one. The reason is because standard issue licenses don’t meet federal security standards. Officials say people shouldn’t panic about the change, and that they’ll have plenty of time to adjust to the new rules. With the latest in Travel, I’m Carli Bei saying bon voyage!
A photograph bought for 2 dollars in a thrift store COULD be worth up to 5 MILLION. The snapshot reportedly shows legendary outlaw Billy the Kid playing a game of croquet. This is only the second known photo of Billy – the first sold at auction in 2010 for 2 point 3 MILLION. The journey from thrift store to validating the authenticity of the photo will be the subject of a National Geographic channel special airing Sunday at 9 PM.
Meanwhile a photo of two rival foxes in the Canadian wilderness has won top honors in the 2015 Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition. “A Tale Of Two Foxes” shows a red fox carrying the carcass of its northern cousin, the Arctic white fox. The photo was praised for highlighting climate change, as the warring animals have increasingly been forced together due to warmer climates in the region. The judges sorted through 42 thousand images, from close to 100 countries in determining the top prize.
And a Jamaican author has won the prestigious Man Booker Prize. Marlon James’ “A Brief History of Seven Killings” scooped the 77 thousand dollar prize. Inspired by a real-life assassination attempt on reggae superstar Bob Marley, the book chronicles three decades of politics and gang life on the Caribbean island. This is the only the second time the accolade has been open to citizens beyond the Commonwealth, so congratulations to Marlon! From the Naked Newsroom, I’m Lydia.
Thank you Lydia! It’s a harsh world out there and we could all do with a little more Pillow Talk in our lives. Luckily, Eila Adams is standing by with just the very thing! What have you got for us today Eila?
Whitney, I know it sounds counter intuitive, but we’re running through a list of people you SHOULDN’T sleep with. Trust me on this one! We all have at least one sex partner we wish we hadn’t gone home with. Now Ask Men dot com has come up with the ultimate guide of who NOT to sleep with and why. Baristas should be avoided unless you want to find a new place to get your caffeine injection. A good dentist or doctor is priceless and not worth the effort it will take to replace them. And the very worst person you could spend the night with? Your STEP-SISTER. If we have to explain why, it’s already too late for you.
What happens when you combine the oldest profession in the world with the mile high club? One flight attendant knows, after she started offering passengers her sexual services during flights. The anonymous woman made 15 hundred dollars per encounter, most of which occurred on journeys between Saudi Arabia and the US. Sadly, she’s since been fired, but in her defense – it sure beats watching the in-flight movie!
Japan is looking for a few good men. The local porn industry is under threat due to a severe shortage of male porn stars. There are reportedly only 70 guys getting off on camera for every 10 THOUSAND gals. That means the men are having to film 2 or 3 films per DAY just to keep up with demand. With the porn industry worth up to 20 BILLION dollars, it might be the career change you’ve been looking for!
A respected Greek orthodox priest from New York has been brought down by his cake fetish! Father George Passias’s obsession with cake crushing was outed when an anonymous source found home made sex videos on his work computer. The clips show the married man engaging in sex acts with a much younger church employee as she sits on a slices of cake. Needless to say, father Passias has now left the church.
And how would you like an all-expenses paid sex holiday… paid for by your PARENTS? A Danish travel company is encouraging mom and dad to send their adult children on vacation so they can PROCREATE. With Danish birth rates at a record low, the “Do It For Mom” campaign is trying to convince parents that they may never get the chance to be grandparents if they don’t help the kids to get it on. Sounds like a win-win to me! With this week’s Pillow Talk, I’m Eila Adams.
Eila Adams and Katherine Curtis talk a bit more about some of today’s stories. That includes Luke Gatti, the UConn student caught on video being drunkenly abusive in his quest for bacon jalapeno macaroni and cheese, an AskMen article saying you shouldn’t sleep with your barista, doctor/dentist, or step-siblings, and a Danish travel agency trying to get parents to send their adult kids on a sex vacation.
